Whether you're having it from a greasy old newspaper, or being a bit posher and using a plate and cutlery - Lancastrians love a chippy tea.

But, with some serving the 'nation's favourite' meal for upwards of £30, what can the Red Rose County offer in terms of value for money?

The array of fish and chips shops across the county means opinions differ on which is the best.

We asked Lancashire Telegraph readers to decide.

West End Fish and Chips in Oswaldtwistle (Image: NQ) Janet Wilson thinks Rosegrove Chippy in Burnley should take the crown.

She said: "Their fish is amazing, always fresh, and cooked to order; the best chippy by far."

Paula Moore agrees, she said: "Rosegrove Chippy has fab food and great lads!"

Sandra Price said: "Being a Yorkshire lass, I'm very picky about my Fish.

"Holly Tree Chippy is the best I've found in both Blackburn & Blackpool.

"Absolutely fantastic and the portions are huge."

Carol Allen backs Westend Fish and Chips as the best value, as did Matt Hodgkiss.

Ocean Chippy on King Street in Blackburn was chosen by Kerrie Fisher.

Stephen Gibson said: "The Golden Orange in Burnley is the best by far."

Heading over the Rossendale, Carolyn Grieves backs Flaxmoss at Haslingden.

Yuit Loung on Marlborough Lane in Accrington is Jayne Procter's choice.

She said: "Malborough Road without a doubt, one portion of chips feeds three kids and are amazing.

"All the portions are massive!"

Teresa Forrester added: "Brunswick Street Chippy in Nelson is fab!"

Beryl Shore said: "Perfect Plaice of Oswaldtwistle is brilliant!

"Massive portions and good quality."
