Police have attended a primary school in Barrowford, in response to parking and driving issues that have been reported.

Officers went to Barrowford Primary School, on Rushton Street, following messages that were sent to the Nelson, Brierfield and Barrowford Police page.

Fine warnings have been issued to drivers parking at the bus stop on the A682 Gisburn Road. No fines were issued but police hope this is a “gentle reminder” for drivers.

Officers have also been alerted of others driving up Rushton Street, then making demands to school staff to use the school’s car park as a “turning circle”.

Police say the area is for disabled access only and the school has “no insurance to cover the use of this area as a turning circle”. Anyone collecting kids from school have been asked to respect staff instructions.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers have attended Barrowford Primary School, several penalty notice warnings were issued to drivers parking In the bus stop on the A682 Gisburn Road. On this occasion, no fines were issued and we hope this is enough of a gentle reminder to drivers.

“Several other drivers are driving up Rushton Street, then making demands to school staff to use the school's car park as a turning circle.

“Please understand this area is for disabled access only and the school has no insurance to cover the use of this area as a turning circle.

“For this reason can anyone collecting children from school respect the school staff's reasonable instructions with the same level of compliance you would an instruction from a police officer instead of attempting to plead a case or bartering for ‘two minutes’.

“The top car park or gated entrance is not to be used as a turning circle.

“This is for the safety of children and I know with your cooperation no enforcement measures will be necessary.”
