A one-punch assault resulted in the victim banging his head on the pavement and suffering a fractured skull.
Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the victim also suffered a bleed on the brain and needed two surgical interventions to treat the injuries.
Cameron Leach, 25, of Hollingreave Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to assaulting Steven Simpson causing him grievous bodily harm.
He was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court for sentence.
Lee Woodyatt, prosecuting, said police were called by ambulance staff who were attending to Mr Simpson.
“The defendant doesn’t recall the incident but it was caught on CCTV,” said Mr Woodyatt.
“The police put out a media appeal and the defendant in fact handed himself in,” said Mr Woodyatt.
He said Mr Simpson had a wound to the back of his head and was found to have a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.
Following initial treatment there were increased symptoms and further intervention was necessary.
Nick Cassidy, mitigating, said it was conceded the case would go to the crown court to be sentenced.
