A Burnley home care provider has been rated good in its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which found improvements from their last visit.

The inspection at Gill Care Services in Colne Road was conducted between September 17 and 26, with a report into the CQC’s findings published this month.

In their report, the commission said staff were “well-trained” and “understood how to respond to safeguarding concerns.”

Risk assessments had been developed, although inspectors identified gaps in some individual risk areas.

However, the registered manager and care coordinator took immediate action to address these issues during the inspection.

The management of medicines was found to be safe and staff were commended for providing care that respected people’s dignity and individual needs.

Inspectors noted that systems for recording complaints and gathering feedback, including surveys and newsletters, ensured that people and their families were kept informed and engaged.

People receiving care and their relatives expressed satisfaction with the service. One person said: “I am really happy. They are really good. I was a bit concerned about having carers in the house when [person] first came out of [place].

“I’ve got used to it, and they look after [person] well.”

Another added that they had been involved in care planning and were pleased with the involvement of healthcare professionals when necessary.

The CQC also highlighted a positive working culture among staff, with employees reporting feeling supported by management. Policies and procedures were up-to-date and audits are in place to monitor and improve service delivery.

The registered manager confirmed nobody was receiving end-of-life care at the time of the inspection but feedback confirmed the involvement of specialist support services. The provider gave assurances about this arrangement.

It was concluded that Gill Care Services is delivering effective, compassionate, and well-led care, resulting in a good rating in all areas.
