An iconic pop band from the 90s, known for an iconic Christmas number one, is set to headline Rawtenstall’s Christmas lights switch-on.

East 17, known for producing Christmas number one Stay Another Day in 1994, will headline Rawtenstall Christmas On The Square, which returns on November 23.

The event will be held on Rawtenstall town square on Saturday, November 23 from 1pm until 6pm.

Organised by the Rossendale 60s Festival Group in collaboration with Rossendale Council, the team has partnered with St Mary’s Chambers who are providing this year’s main stage, production and headline artist.

The event, which is hosted by Rossendale Radio, promises to be a fantastic experience for the whole community.

The Water Village Band, The Rossendale Ukulele Band. Colour Me Pop, Lareena Mitchell, The X-Rays, The McCaw School of Dance and the Valley Academy singing songs from ‘Nativity The Musical’ and music from Rossendale Radio, can also be expected.

Children can enjoy rides and Santa will be calling to check that all the kids have all been good. Guests can also admire the 24ft Christmas tree, which will be switch on by nominated local children on the night accompanied by the mayor of Rossendale councillor Judith Driver.

90s pop band East 17 will perform their headline set at 5pm, singing a variety of songs.

Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell were the original East 17 members.

The group continues today with of Terry Coldwell, Joe Livermore, and former Artful Dodger collaborator Robbie Craig in the line-up.
