A small Darwen restaurant has been named Best Curry House in a Lancashire Telegraph competition.
Readers were asked to name their favourite curry house in the region with the top 10 featured online and in our print editions during the past month.
People were then asked to vote for the best curry house by picking up a copy of the Lancashire Telegraph.
The winner has been named as Freya’s Grill Bar, on Duckworth Street, after the eaterie picked up the most votes.
Manager Naz Islam, who only launched the restaurant three years ago, said he was ‘delighted’ to win.
He said: “I wasn’t expecting that at all.
“We have a really good team here. It may be smaller than some of the other restaurants but we try our best to keep customers happy and serve up fantastic dishes.
“I would like to thank all our loyal customers and everyone who went out to vote for us. It means a lot to all the hard-working staff.
“I would also like to mention all the other restaurants who were in the top 10. It is not an easy business to be in and I know they all work hard for their customers.”
The menu is expansive with a variety of items available, including classic curries and donner meals, plus other options such as chicken parmesan, burgers and beyond.
The restaurant also caters for customers with dietary requirements and food intolerances to ensure everyone can enjoy its food.
Naz said: “We love Darwen and we love the people. People are so friendly here and we are always getting great comments from diners.
“People do really support you.”
The restaurant was gearing up for the busy Christmas period.
Naz said: “We have already sold out the Christmas menu already. It shows if you do something right people do appreciate it.
“In the run up to Christmas we are offering the ‘Banquet party’ for £16.95 which is for works parties and get togethers ahead of the holiday. It is something else that proves to be popular.”
