A major road connecting Haslingden to Blackburn remains closed after a four-car collision last night.
Officers were called at 10:30pm and one man has been taken to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The road remains closed between J5 on the M65 and the junction with Holcombe Road.
Police anticipate the road will be closed until the ice and snow melts away and will keep residents updated.
Alternate northbound routes include continuing on the A56 towards Accrington and continuing along Roundhill Road.
If you are heading southbound, motorists can use the Roman Road via Grimshaw or the B6232 at Belthorn before heading onto Broadhead Road.
The Met Office suggests using dipped headlights, accelerating gently using lower revs, starting in second gear, maintaining a safe and steady speed, keeping a constant speed up hills, using a low gear to go downhill and steering into skids when driving in snowy conditions.
Additionally, they offer advice when driving on ice including looking well ahead for potential hazards, accelerating, braking, steering and changing gear as smoothly as possible, using a higher gear to help with grip and manage engine power to find traction.
