Mountain rescue teams were called to Lee Mill Quarry, where a man had fallen down an abandoned shaft.
On Thursday (November 14) Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue were called to report that the man had fallen from 30ft and called North West Ambulance Service to assist.
Air ambulance paramedics were already on the scene and had started an initial assessment of the casualty.
Additionally, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) Team from Manchester also joined the teams to provide additional support.
After an initial scene assessment, a rope system was used along with the vacuum mattress and bell stretcher to extract the casualty.
Once safe they handed over to the air ambulance for onward transportation and further care.
A spokesperson from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain rescue said: “Another great example of multiagency working with air ambulance, HART and ourselves, collaborating to create a successful outcome. Thanks to all that attended and our colleagues on the day.
“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and all the best.”
