A reality television star from Accrington has been announced as the host of a new chat show highlighting the reality of living with a disability.
Jay Howard, who was born without part of her left arm, features on Unfiltered Women alongside Samantha Renke and Fats Timbo as they share their experiences of travelling, dating and beyond revealing how their disabilities affect day-to-day life and the challenges they face.
The women share their stories openly on the three-part series with plenty of humour in the hopes of changing perceptions of viewers.
The three-part series is delivered as part of ITV's returning Fresh Cuts strand – this year focusing on Disability History Month, with the show made up of a Loose Women-style panel with Jay as one of the leads.
Speaking on This Morning, Jay said the aim of the show is to educate viewers.
He said: “This show is more of us educating in a light-hearted manner. We didn’t want it to be a pity party because sometimes disability is looked at in a negative light rather than positive.”
Jay added that it is “great to hear” how well the show has been received.
She said: “Not little old Jay Howard from Accrington on the This Morning sofa.
“What a pleasure to visit ITVs Television Centre studios today for a little natter with the girls about all things Unfiltered Women
“Thanks to everyone who tuned in for all your lovely messages!
“It’s also been incredible to already receive so much positive feedback on the series, with so many of you saying you’d love to see more!!! Great to hear how well received it’s been so far and that’s all down to.”
Jay appeared on Channel 4 show Married at First Sight last year.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph she said she was often bullied at school and said it has impacted her love life.
Earlier this year, she was named the ambassador for Reach, a charity that provides support for children with upper limb differences.
The former Rhyddings High School in Oswaldtwistle pupil said she was introduced to the charity as a child.
It was through the charity that she met other children with limb differences and realised that she wasn’t alone.
Unfiltered Women is available to watch now on ITV Player.
