A BLACKBURN pub has been earmarked to become a community cafe and madrassah.

A planning application has been submitted for the conversion of The Florence in Moss Street, Daisyfield.

A supporting statement submitted with Mr Ismail's proposal says: "The proposal seeks to provide a valuable community facility.

"The property is located on the corner of Moss Street and Florence Street.

"The building is currently in use as a public house, which is proposed to be repurposed for the following uses:

" * ground floor: a community café offering a range of food and drink, serving as a social space for local residents and visitors.

" • first floor: a madrasah (Islamic educational centre) providing religious and cultural education to children and adults in the local community.

"The proposed community café will serve as a welcoming social space for the local community, offering a variety of food and drink options suitable for all ages with opening hours from Monday to Sunday: 8am to 8pm.

"The café will offer a range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, light bites, and other meal options.

"The food and drink served will include hot and cold drinks (non-alcoholic) including coffee, tea, fresh juices, and soft drinks; a selection of fresh sandwiches served with various fillings; a variety of snacks and paninis; and a selection of freshly made cakes and pastries.

"The café will provide indoor seating with a warm and friendly atmosphere, catering to individuals, families, and small groups.

"The facility will be designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring that it is inclusive and welcoming to all visitors.

"The first floor of the building will be converted to a madrassah, offering religious and educational services to the local community.

"The madrassah will provide a space for religious instruction, cultural education, and community engagement.

"Opening hours will be Monday to Friday 9:30am to 11:30am and 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

"The madrasah will typically accommodate between 20 to 30 pupils at any given time, with appropriate supervision and support.

"The educational activities will focus on Islamic studies, including Quranic studies, Arabic language classes, and other related subjects.

"Parking spaces are provided within the site to accommodate staff, visitors and parent drop offs.

"The conversion of the building will involve minimal external alterations, ensuring the property retains its existing character.

"The proposed conversion of the public house to a community café and madrassah will provide valuable community facilities in a central location."
