Luke Gorton, 40, has been wanted for several months and has regularly appeared on the weekly lists of East Lancashire's most wanted men published by the Lancashire Telegraph.
Gorton was spotted by officers from the Burnley taskforce yesterday (November 8) and tried to make an escape.
However, he was contained by the taskforce and subsequently located by PD Bane before being arrested.
He has since been charged with numerous offences including shoplifting and attempted burglary.
He has been remanded and was due to appear before Preston Magistrates' Court this morning (November 9).
A police spokesperson said: "We recently shared an appeal for Luke Gorton who was wanted for prison recall and other offences.
"We are pleased to report that yesterday eagle eyed officers from the Burnley Taskforce spotted him, Luke tried to make his escape and attempted a very bad game of hide and seek with us.
"Unfortunately for Luke he was contained by the Taskforce and our furry friend PD Bane located him and he was subsequently arrested."
