The 10 noisiest streets in Blackburn have been revealed in new data provided by the council.
A Freedom of Information request by the Lancashire Telegraph to Blackburn with Darwen Council uncovered the number of noise complaints made to the authority.
The data provided covers the period from the start of 2024 to the end of September.
It showed a total number of 242 noise complaints were made to the council in that period, with disturbances ranging from barking dogs to fireworks to parties.
The broken-down data also revealed how many complaints were made regarding each street, which allowed us to determine the 10 noisiest streets in the town.
Leading the way with complaints was Accrington Road which had a total of five complaints for a range of noises – barking dogs, alarms, people, music, and DIY.
The full list is as follows:
- Accrington Road
- Bolton Road – four complaints for barking dog (2), people, and fireworks
- Hamilton Street – four complaints for people (3) and vehicles
- Preston New Road – four complaints for barking dog, people, music, and DIY
- Addison Street – three complaints for barking dog, people, and DIY
- Blackburn Road – three complaints for barking dog, people, and music
- Hollins Grove Street – three complaints for barking dog (3)
- Whalley New Road – three complaints for barking dog (2) and fixed machinery e.g fans, boiler
- Abraham Street – two complaints for barking dog and music
- Alexandra Road – two complaints for barking dog (2)
The council said 82 warning/advice letters were sent out along with 11 community protection warnings, eight noise abatement notices and one community protection notice.
Eight complaints were also made where the exact location and address of the noise could not be determined.
