Four East Lancashire students have been shortlisted for the county-wide Tourism Awards.
This year’s hospitality and tourism student of the year award has received nominations for six students from three of Lancashire’s leading colleges, with four based in Blackburn and Burnley.
Judging will recognise individuals currently undertaking a hospitality or tourism-related course, who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the industry.
Having excelled in their studies and placements, they have been nominated by tutors of employers who believe they deserve to be commended for their achievements.
Finalists from East Lancashire include James Ashworth and Sophie Wilkinson, two NVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery and Patisserie students from Blackburn College.
They will be joined by Lois Eccles and Lucie Pearson, who are both working towards their NCFE Level 3 Diplomas in Travel and Tourism at Burnley College.
All finalists have now been invited to interview with a panel of academics and industry experts as part of the Lancashire Tourism Awards judging days, hosted at Burnley FC next week, to determine the winner.
Professor Steven Rhoden, School of Business Dean at the University of Central Lancashire, said: “We are honoured to be sponsoring this year’s Student Awards and to celebrate the exceptional talent and dedication of the finalists and supporting the next generation of leaders in Lancashire.
“It's a privilege to support the achievements of these remarkable students, whose hard work, innovation, and passion are truly inspiring.
"We look forward to meeting each finalist and witnessing first-hand the potential and ambition they bring to their field.”
Joining them is Abbie Schofield, a Hospitality Team Member Level 2 student who was nominated by placement business Brickhouse Farm Cottages, based in Fylde, and Ethan Avis, C&G L3 Diploma in Professional Cookie student at Blackpool & Fylde College.
The winner will be announced at the Lancashire Tourism Awards on February 11, 2025, before an audience of Lancashire’s leading hospitality, travel and tourism industry colleagues.
