Two lanes on the M6 are back open after yesterday’s tragic collision, which killed one HGV driver and severely injured two others.
Lane three remains closed in both directions on the M6 between J33 at Garstang and J32 to the M55 for Blackpool as police continue investigations and fix the central reservation.
The closure has led to significant delays however Lancashire Police will be prosecuting the HGV drivers caught on camera using lane three to jump the queue.
On Wednesday (November 6), police were called to reports of a serious crash on the motorway, close to junction 33, between Lancaster and Preston.
The motorway was shut in both directions with tailbacks stretching for miles, after a HGV hit the central reservation and overturned.
Sadly, the driver of the HGV, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene whilst two other people, a man in his 40s driving a Ford Transit and a woman in her 40s driving a Suzuki Swift suffered serious injuries.
A total of ten vehicles were involved in the collision.
Supt Hassan Khan, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Operations Dept said: “My thoughts first and foremost are with the loved ones of the driver who sadly died and with all those affected by this tragic incident. Our investigation into what caused this collision is ongoing.
“Work is still ongoing to repair the road so I would urge people to avoid the area if they can or check before you travel. I appreciate the delays are frustrating, but safety work needs to be completed before the road can open again.
“I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, and who has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information can call us on 101 quoting log 0564 of November 6th. You can also email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at SCIU@lancashire.police.uk
