An investigation has been launched after a man was brutally attacked with hammers and a baseball bat in Accrington.
Police said they were called at 8.30am to Wordsworth Road on Wednesday, November 6, where they found a man in his 50s who had been assaulted by six men who were travelling in a Land Rover and a BMW X5.
The BMW had collided with the front of the victim’s car, a Volkswagen Golf, and the Land Rover with the rear of the car, with all vehicles sustaining damage.
Police believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community.
Footage of the incident seen by the Lancashire Telegraph showed the suspects getting out of their vehicles and attacking the victim with weapons, with the driver suffering injuries to his legs and face.
The clip shows the Volkswagen Golf sandwiched between the two other vehicles with masked men attacking the car and its driver with weapons.
A hooded man has smashed the passenger car window of the Golf and is reaching inside to attack the driver with a hammer.
Another man appears wielding a hammer and jumps over the car to get to the driver's side.
Another man with a hammer and a fourth man with a baseball bat then target the man inside the vehicle.
At one point the driver attempts to get out of the car to defend himself or attempt to flee but is trapped and attacked by the men.
The men can be seen hitting the man across the body, head and legs as he kicks out in vain.
As the attack continues the footage shows him slumped back into the car as he still attempts to kick out the attackers with a bloodied face.
Police said they are aware that a video of the assault has been shared on social media and urge people not to share this further.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Denson, of Lancashire Police, said: “This was a violent assault with weapons of a man who suffered serious injuries.
“As we investigate what happened, we are appealing for witnesses to the assault and any information.
“If anyone has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened, we want you to contact the police.”
Anyone who has information which can assist the police is asked to call 101, quoting log 0291 of November 6.
Information can also be passed to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.
