Part of the M6 remains closed this morning (November 7) after a person tragically died in a horror crash.
On Wednesday (November 6), police were called to reports of a serious crash on the motorway, close to junction 33, between Lancaster and Preston.
The motorway was shut in both directions with tailbacks stretching for miles, after a HGV hit the central reservation and overturned.
Police confirmed that one person has died and a number of other serious injuries.
The M6 northbound has reopened between junction 33 near Lancaster and junction 32 near Preston. The southbound carriageway remains fully closed.
Complex recovery and clear-up work is in place. The central reservation is also being repaired.
According to AA Traffic and Travel, there are severe delays of 30 minutes that stretch back to junction 34.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Complex recovery and collision clear-up work continues. The M6 northbound has reopened between junction and 33. One lane is closed for emergency central reservation barrier repairs.
“Southbound carriageway remains fully closed.”
