A fire which ripped through the living room of a house on Bonfire Night is believed to have been started after "lit fireworks" were said to have been thrown by three men into the property.
Police have launched an arson investigation following the blaze in Turton last night, Tuesday, in which a woman in her 60s was rescued by firefighters
Police say they were called at 10.31pm to an address in Lower Meadow to a report of arson.
A description of one of the three suspects has been released.
A spokesperson for Lancashire police said: “Three males were reported to have been seen throwing lit fireworks into the property which caused a significant fire.
“They were then seen to get into a car and leave the scene.
“A woman in her 60s had to be rescued from the house by the fire service and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“One of the suspects is described as 6ft, slim, clean shaven, with mousey brown mid-length hair.”
The woman was taken to hospital but has since been released.
Speaking to The Bolton News, station manager at Bolton North and Horwich fire station, Ady Taylor, said the fire just affected the living room but has described the home as "inhospitable".
He added: "Firefighters from Bolton attended the scene as we were able to get there quicker.
"We were joined by teams from Ramsbottom, Bolton Central, Farnworth and Rawtenstall who were on standby because of it being Bonfire Night.
"We were on scene from 10.43pm until 1.30am tackling the blaze.
"Police investigations are still ongoing into the cause of the fire.”
