The fire service has returned to a scrapyard in Great Harwood, after a fire on Monday night (October 4).
The fire service was called to Meadow Street on Monday. Access to the scrapyard had been blocked by a heavy goods vehicle meaning firefighters were unable to extinguish the fire from the road.
At the time, the fire was said to have extinguished itself although smoke could be seen across the town.
In a statement issued today (October 6), the fire service confirmed it was at the site overnight, “as part of a multi-agency approach to fires burning on site”.
Four fire engines were in attendance throughout the night, “extinguishing a number of tonnes of commercial waste”.
The smoke has been impacted by the local community since November 4.
A fire service spokesperson said: “We have been at a site on Meadow Street in Great Harwood overnight, as part of a multi-agency approach to fires burning on site.
"The smoke has been impacting the local community since the evening of November 4, but access to the site was previously being restricted.
“Four fire engines have been in attendance throughout the night, extinguishing a number of tonnes of commercial waste.
"They continue to remain in attendance, supported by colleagues from Lancashire Police.”
