With its scenic location, the Raj Indian Cuisine and Lounge is more than just another curry house.
It has been one of the most popular restaurants in town set on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal catering to couples and families for many years.
The Raj, based off Bolton Road, Blackburn is one of 10 restaurants which has been nominated for the Lancashire Telegraph’s Best Curry House competition.
The restaurant offers a range of curries from spicy for the brave to mild and medium dishes for less daring palettes.
These include some favourites such as the Masala, the Dhansak to the Madras varieties.
You can also opt for the clay oven grilled and tandoori dishes.
It is also pleasing to see a restaurant offering a range of Biryanis rather than just one or two options.
At the Raj you can sample the vegetable, lamb, chicken, prawn and lamb tikka versions all for under a tenner.
Restaurants have struggled in recent years with rising prices and it is pleasing to see the Raj is still opting for good value for money on its varied menu.
Announcing the shortlist the restaurant said: “I want to thank all my customers for their support over the years and especially voting for us in the Lancashire Telegraph as we have made it into the top 10 best Indian restaurants in Lancashire.”
Like many restaurants, the Raj has looked to attract diners during their less busy periods during the week.
A Wednesday night special is proving to be a novel idea. The offer is poppadoms with a chutney tray, a starter, and a main with rice, chips or naan for £14.95 per person.
Whilst the larger cities still have buffet menus, you are hard-pressed to find an Asian food buffet in the borough.
On Sundays, you can head down to the Raj buffet menu, again for £14.95 for adults and £8.95 for children.
Readers can vote for the ‘Best Curry House 2024’ by picking up copies of the Lancashire Telegraph until Saturday, November 9.
