Gas works are set to continue in Oswaldtwistle but will cause minor disruption to the Remembrance services taking place this weekend.

Cadent have been carrying out work on the pipes in the road near the war memorial since October 17 and will be finished on December 2.

However, having liaised with the council, Cadent has confirmed the works will be “greatly reduced” to accommodate for the parade on Remembrance Sunday, November 10.

There will be two remaining excavations, outside the Arena Hair Salon and a small one in Rhyddings Street, but the rest will be covered over to make way for the service.

Both open holes will be barricaded off and are to the side of the parade so will have no impact on proceedings.

Mark Syers, head of investment planning in the North West for Cadent, said: “I can assure you that we've always had the local Remembrance parade and service at the front of our minds as we work on the gas pipes in the road near the war memorial.

"We have worked closely with Hyndburn Council and the parade organisers to ensure we pause, as everyone pauses, to remember. We will be greatly reducing our work area to accommodate the parade.”

The parade in the town will assemble in Thwaites Street at 2pm for a parade along Union Road, where the majority of the gas works are in place, and finishing at the War Memorial on Rhyddings Street at 2.10pm.

A combined service and wreath laying will take place at the War Memorial at 2.30pm.

Plans to replace more than 36km of gas mains across East Lancashire began in May, as part of Cadent’s £80 million improvement programme.

Of this Hyndburn received more than 2km in maintenance upgrades.
