Developers of a row of luxury homes in Blackburn have been told to clear up the mess along a main road directly outside the properties.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is taking action following complaints from people using Billinge End Road.
Last week, a number of people complained over the state of the road which was full of mud and also the sight of building material which was taking up a large amount of space on the footpath. The opposite side of the road had no footpath.
The homes are linked to the family of the billionaire Issa brothers who founded the EG Group.
However, a further development, not linked to the family is also taking place in Billinge End Road, where diggers could be seen busy at work causing mud to be deposited on the road.
One resident who regularly uses the route said: “It was a complete mess last week with mud all over the place.
“How are people supposed to use the footpath if there is no way to get through? I had to slow down a few times just to let heavy vehicles through.”
The row of five homes is one of the biggest projects the town has seen and once finished will be one of the most luxurious developments in the county.
Another resident of the area said: “It is a big project but there should be more enforcement for the main road and users.”
On inspection this week a section of the path was also taken up by vehicles, due to the number of workers at the site. The narrow road itself was clear of traffic and vehicles.
A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokesperson said: “A Breach of Condition Notice has been served on the developers of five new dwellings to the North of Billinge End Road in Blackburn.
“As a result, work has already started to clear the mud and debris from the road and footpath with an improvement in the last few days.
“The building materials are also being cleared and, as part of the notice, must be removed in full within the four-week deadline.
“Our Planning Enforcement Team will continue to monitor the site closely.”
The scheme to knock down eight houses and replace them with five new homes was unveiled in 2018 and work has continued at pace in the past year.
The structures themselves appear to be complete and workers have been landscaping along the large front garden areas.
