A police officer has issued a warning after reports of people throwing fireworks in Burnley.

Mark Hill, a PCSO for the Rosegrove and Lowerhouse areas, said there have been “a number of incidents” of anti-social behaviour where juveniles have been throwing fireworks. In some cases, damage has been caused.

With bonfire night tonight (November 5), police have urged parents to check where their children are. Police have also warned of the dangers of fireworks.

A police spokesperson said: “With bonfire night tonight we have had a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) whereby juveniles have been throwing fireworks and in some cases damage being caused.

“Can we just remind parents to be aware of where your children are and what they are up to if out and about. Any ASB found to be happening will not be tolerated and those responsible will be dealt with accordingly.

“It is also a timely reminder that fireworks are, in essence, an explosive. Holding a firework whilst lighting it or worse still holding it whilst it goes off, can result in horrific injuries.

"Please explain to your children that fireworks are not toys and the severe consequences that can happen should fireworks be used in any other circumstances than instructed on the safety warning.”
