Dramatic photos and video show a car in flames close to Blackburn town centre on Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 3pm on Simmons Street car park opposite Barbara Castle Way Health Centre.
Firefighters were called to the scene, where what appeared to be a Vauxhall Zafira was fully alight.
Smoke could be seen billowing across the street as fire crews tackled the blaze.
One fire crew managed to bring the fire under control, leaving the burnt-out shell in a car park. The fire team made the area safe within 20 minutes.
A witness who saw the drama unfold said: "There was certainly a lot of smoke and people were not sure what had happened at first.
"It quickly caught fire and the fire crew were on the scene fast. People were being told to stay away.
"It is only a small car park and there were few other vehicles in there at the time. The road was not closed off as the car was parked towards the back of the car park."
