Five new deputy lieutenants including two from Darwen and Burnley have been appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Amanda Parker.

They will join the existing team of deputies who help and support the Lord-Lieutenant in her duties as His Majesty The King’s representative across Lancashire.

The newly-commissioned Deputy Lieutenants include Travis Frain, of Darwen, and professor Miranda Barker, of Burnley.

Miranda is chief executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce & Industry, leading economic regeneration, business support, and low carbon initiatives, including the £6m Chamber Low Carbon program and £2.7m RedCAT project.

She said: "I've lived and worked across Lancashire since 2017, supporting the most superb business community and I'm honoured now to be appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant.

"I look forward to working with the amazingly experienced and diverse group of Deputy Lieutenants we have here, supporting the Lord Lieutenant in her work, representing His Majesty the King in the wonderful county of Lancashire."

Travis is a lecturer in policing and criminology at the University of Central Lancashire, and founder of the counter-extremism NGO, Resilience in Unity. Travis has worked in national security and as a victims advocate since surviving injuries sustained in the Westminster Bridge attack in March 2017.

Travis, who was made an OBE in the 2024 New Year’s Honours List, said: “The Royal Family has long served as a positive, unifying force for good within our communities, and it is a great honour to be called upon to assist the Lord-Lieutenant as one of His Majesty’s personal representatives.

“I look forward to supporting the King’s vision throughout our great county, and contributing to his priorities of climate, community, commonwealth, and culture – all of which align directly with my personal mission of fostering within our communities a sense of cohesion and resilience against extremism.”

Further Deputy Lieutenants include Michael Conlon of Penwortham who is chairman of Conlon Construction Limited, His Honour Judge Graham Knowles KC, a circuit judge sitting in Lancashire since 2010, and Christopher Lomas of Ormskirk, Chief Technology Officer at CoEditor Limited which specialises in AI technology solutions for the publishing industry.
