A shoplifter who targeted the same store chain in different towns over the space of four days stole hundreds of pounds worth of spirits during his spree.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard how on each occasion Daniel Bremner stole high-value spirits, including vodka and whisky, from Booths supermarket in Barrowford and twice in Poulton-le-Fylde.

Bremner, 38, of Manchester Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty the offences, which started when he stole four bottles of Grey Goose vodka worth £160 on August 12 in Poulton-le-Fylde.

The next day he stole three bottles of Macallan Whiskey, two bottles of Wire Works Whisky, a bottle of Woodford Bourbon and a bottle of VSOP Brandy worth £465 on August 13, again striking in Polton-le-Fylde.

He went on to commit theft of Wire Works Whisky, Grey Goose Vodka, Don Papa Rum, Canerock Jamaican Spiced rum and the Botanist Islay dry gin worth £218 on August 16 from Booths in Barrowford.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £625 compensation.

The court heard Bremner blamed his financial hardship for his offending, but Deputy District Judge Anna Moran said there were many people faced with “dire financial circumstances” who didn’t resort to stealing.

“You are in breach of a conditional discharge," she said.

"It's not clear whether you are in breach of a suspended sentence, but you are already subject to a community order which is an aggravating feature."
