An appeal has been issued to ensure that one of Blackburn’s most popular bonfires events goes off with a bang.
Last week, organisers of the Blackburn Charity Bonfire at Witton Park found themselves short of wood ahead of the display on Saturday, November 9.
Following the appeal numerous companies came forward to support the display, which benefits a number of good causes in the borough and attracts thousands.
However, they now face difficulties in transporting the pallets to Witton Park on either Thursday 7 or Friday 8 November.
Event chair Frank Barratt said: “We would like to thank all the local Blackburn with Darwen companies that have come forward with offers of pallets & pallet type wood for this year’s charity bonfire.
“There are a lot of the companies that have pallets for the charity bonfire but unfortunately no transport to deliver to us.
“So we are now asking for help again from Lancashire Telegraph readers and a local Blackburn with Darwen company or companies who may be able to help with transport to collect these pallets from local companies.”
Organisers are willing to donate to the company’s chosen charity in their name.
Frank added: “We know it is a big ask to spare a wagon & driver for a day but in return we will gladly make a donation to the companies chosen local charity or good cause, donated in the company name.”
Gates open on the night at 5pm with the bonfire lit at 7pm and a fireworks display from 7.30pm.
The bonfire is put on thanks to the efforts of the Blackburn Round Table, Blackburn Lions, Blackburn Rotary Club and the 41 Club.
Sponsorship from Blackburn with Darwen Council, Witton Park Academy, Parkinson Signs and Adhan Group Property Rentals are critical for the show to go ahead.
Last year’s bonfire raised money for Blackburn Samaritans, St Frances' Scouts & Guides, St George's Scouts & Guides, Blackburn Food Bank, Ivy Street Community Centre, Blackburn Sea Cadets, Blackburn Marine Cadets, Blackburn Youth Darts Academy, Derian House Children’s Hospice, The Burrow, Hyndburn Baby Bank and Blackburn Youth Zone.
This year the chosen charities are ELHT&me, Blackburn with Darwen’s Age UK, Blackburn Samaritans and St Frances Scouts & Guides Group.
