An East Lancashire charity is launching a singing group for people with dementia and their carers to combat loneliness.
Community Solutions North West, based in Accrington, is launching Sing for Dementia in November to help reduce social isolation for those with dementia and their family carers.
The social group was created so that people can come together and share joy, music, and memories with each other.
Enterprise development manager Chris Emmerson said: “It’s for people with dementia but it’s also for the carers to come along as well to give them some respite but also to get involved in the sessions.
“We want to bring people who are suffering with dementia and their carers together.
“For the people that we support here already who have dementia, it also gives them another fun group that they can attend.
“It gives the carers a place to go and gives them a little bit of respite.”
The wellbeing charity supports people with dementia, but they are not a dementia group and have never done anything like this before.
They are based in Elmfield Hall, where they work to reduce social isolation, loneliness and issues affecting mental health - assisting more than 2,000 people last year.
They currently run 15 groups, including a knitting group, a sewing group, a craft group, a games group, a walking group and cooking workshops.
Community Solutions supports people through their whole journey and also helps people suffering with grief and loss, runs training courses to build confidence, and offers crisis support for people who are really struggling.
The singing group will take place every Friday from November 15 at Elmfield Hall in Accrington and will cost £3 to join.
