An arts centre in Blackburn is kicking off its autumn entertainment programme with a night supporting a new town gigs initiative.

Earlier this week the Lancashire Telegraph reported on the launch of Blackburn Gigs, a project to bolster live music in the town centre.

And tomorrow, Saturday, The Bureau Centre for the Arts, at the former Lewis Textile Museum premises in Exchange Street, hosts a three-handed musical extravaganza.

The autumn offerings kick off with the harmony-drive melodies of Canter Semper, 'backed by acoustic, orchestral, and choir elements'.

Support comes from Katie Nicholas’ 'raw, poignant storytelling and bold genre-defying music' and 'the unique artistry of Arisha, whose music delves into themes of neurodiversity, queerness, and climate consciousness'.

A Bureau spokesperson said: "We are excited to bring you a new programme of live music and theatre in partnership with other organisations and individual performers.

"But without your bookings at our events and those at other venues, there really will be nothing on in Blackburn.

"So buy a ticket, tell your friends and come along and be part of making it happen! Your support is the most important thing we have.

"All donations and any profit from events go back into running activities and events at The Bureau."

Meanwhile, the autumn programme continues on Friday, November 15, with 'Slowing Down To The Speed Of Light', with storyteller Jacqueline Harris, an exploration of an adult diagnosis of ADHD 'through a playful and provocative tale of a woman untangling a lifetime of stories while a girl from the future with a battered case, an old hat and an ancient map, searches for an ancestor lost in faerie'.

Then centre bosses return to the musical theme on Saturday, November 23, with another triple-header.

Promoters have pledged pop melodies, electronica and folk, on a night which coincides with the town's annual festive lights switch-on.

Jack Watkins will blend electronic synths, soulful vocals, and piano melodies, from his debut album Wonderland, while local lad Jacob Reddy brings 'energetic indie rock anthems' and John Witherspoon showcases classic songwriting inspired by Dylan, The Beatles and Britpop.

All tickets for events can be bought online at the Bureau's website or by dropping into the venue, Wednesdays to Saturdays, between 11am and 3pm.
