A new index has revealed that Blackburn is one of the worst places in the country to drive to work.
The index by Go.Compare car insurance ranked 109 places in the UK based on factors that commuters find most annoying, including fuel and parking costs, delays, and road conditions.
Blackburn scored just 3.8 out of 10, making it the joint 'ninth-worst place in the country to commute by car', alongside Liverpool and Sutton.
The town has some of the worst road conditions in the country, with 72.5 per cent of its A, B, and C roads in 'poor condition.'
Blackpool, with an overall score of 4.6, was placed in joint 90th place with Cardiff.
One of the primary reasons for this is the condition of the roads, with 63 per cent of its A, B, and C roads reported to be in 'poor condition.'
In contrast, Preston was named the UK's best place for car commuters, scoring 7.9 out of 10.
The town's high score was attributed to relatively low fuel and parking costs, few traffic delays, and good road conditions.
Only around a quarter of its A, B, and C roads are in 'poor condition.'
Lancaster scored 6.2, placing it towards the middle of the pack in terms of commuter-friendliness.
However, the city's score was affected by high fuel prices, with diesel and petrol costing an average of 153.8p and 148.7p per litre, respectively.
Tom Banks, car insurance expert at Go.Compare, said: "Many drivers might not realise that cities with high traffic rates, fuel costs, parking costs, and poor road conditions can also have high insurance premiums as well.
"It might not be at the forefront of someone’s mind but these factors are worth considering when moving home or even when looking for a new job."
