Preston is the 'luckiest place in Lancashire', according to a new study.
VIP Grinders' research examined the total number of Postcode Lottery wins in each city and town in the UK as of October 2024.
The study found that Preston had the highest average number of wins per postcode district.
With 480 wins spread across 11 postcode districts, Preston had an average of 43.64 wins per postcode district.
This puts Preston at the top of the list for Postcode Lottery wins.
Preston was closely followed by Warrington and Blackpool, with averages of 35.69 and 34.50 wins per postcode district, respectively.
Warrington's 16 postcode districts have a total of 571 wins, while Blackpool's eight districts have 276.
Telma Casaca, head of publishing at VIP Grinders, said: "It's no wonder so many people try their luck with the Postcode Lottery, especially with prizes reaching up to £500,000.
"While the postcodes are chosen using a random algorithm to make the outcome unpredictable, it is interesting to see such a big difference in how often postcodes in certain districts are drawn.
"It is fascinating that so many of the top-ranking areas, such as Preston, Warrington, and Bolton, are Northern.
"Remarkably, three of the top ten locations are also in Lancashire, making it the luckiest county in the UK.
"One reason why areas like Preston and Warrington could have seen more wins is the number of players registered in each postcode.
"If a higher number of people enter from the same postcode, they have a better chance of winning the Postcode Millions prize compared to just one person entering alone.
“However, this doesn’t apply to other prizes in the Postcode Lottery.
"So, if certain postcode sectors have better than average luck with the £30,000 prize, it’s likely because there are more individual postcodes registered in that area than other areas in the UK.”
The research also looked at the areas with the least number of wins.
West Central London was identified as the unluckiest postcode area, with an average of just 0.56 wins per postcode district.
Other areas with low averages included East Central London and Kirkwall, with 0.61 and 3.31 wins per postcode district, respectively.
The study revealed that Nottingham ranked fourth for Postcode Lottery wins, with an average of 33.28 wins per postcode district.
Leicester took the fifth spot, with an average of 32.24 wins per postcode district.
Bolton, Croydon, Motherwell, Stoke-on-Trent, and Blackburn rounded out the top ten.
Bolton had an average of 32 wins per postcode district, Croydon had 30.25, Motherwell had 30.17, Stoke-on-Trent had 29.52, and Blackburn had 29.38.
Each of these areas had hundreds of total wins spread across their postcode districts.
