A large outdoor area within Oswaldtwistle Mills is set to become a community hub.

The green space, which includes a lawn, picnic benches, and a wildlife sanctuary and pond, is open to the public.

It has recently been used to host a family fun day organised by the St Paul's Scouts group from Oswaldtwistle, which was a great success.

Oswaldtwistle Mills now wants to develop the space further and is seeking partners to help with this.

Managing director Nick Pitman said: "We'd love it if a green space or wildlife group would be able to come in and help us restore and enhance our outdoor space.

"The wildlife area could do with a little TLC from experts who could take it to the next level and make it more suitable for attracting native wildlife, and we hope for lots of varieties of wildlife taking up home there."

The mills have a garden room available for community groups and activity classes, which they are keen to offer to anyone interested.

"Perhaps schools would like regular access to outdoor green space and lessons, and we'd be very interested in making that happen."

Future plans include installing an apiary to contribute to the local bee population.

Mr Pitman added: "I urge anyone who might be interested to get in touch - we'd like to continue to provide a green space for all the local community, and would love to see this enhanced and taken to the next level by people with a bit more experience than us in these areas."
