Washing day and time to ‘peg out’ in this great photo from the archives taken in March 1964.
It shows two women taking advantage of a good drying day in the gardens of what appear to be prefab houses.
The caption on the photo isn’t clear as it states the houses are 'near Sawley Avenue on the Entwistle Street estate'. Can any Looking Back readers help pinpoint their location?
Also, look at the corrugated iron huts which each house appear to have had - were they perhaps left over from the war?
The women have clearly got hanging the washing out to a fine art with one on pegging duties and the other poised with the prop to lift the washing clear of the long grass.
