It was probably hard work doing a shift at the Whitebirk Power station but in 1967 staff got a little ‘bonus’.
This picture shows the interior of what was described by the Northern Daily Telegraph at the time as the power station’s ‘new clubhouse’.
The social club had all the facilities you would expect including its own bar.
It’s a real snapshot of a different era - notice that on every table there is an ashtray. And then there’s the one-armed bandit by the door to the left of the bar.
It’s difficult to read but the sign above the door indicates that there was a separate snooker room.
