An Oswaldtwistle bus company are “incredibly sad” as “mindless” yobs throw brick through bus window.

At 3:50pm on Monday, October 21 a Moving People driver was at the start of its service, btu when arriving at the Intack traffic lights was attacked by youths throwing an object at a passing vehicle, smashing one of the bus windows.

Having recently invested £180,000 in the new bus as part of the Blackburn with Darwen Improvement Plan, it will now be out of service for up to three months due to limited suppliers.

Glen Chamberlain, managing director at Moving People said: “The cost is significant, this glass will be around £1500, and it is not an insignificant sum.

“It is not an accident, someone hasn’t made it an error it is mindless vandalism.”

Arriving at the scene, Glen was “disappointed” as police didn’t arrive for some time, and they received constant abuse from the perpetrators.

Glen added: “We arrived on the scene and the perpetrators were still there. They were hurling abuse at other motorists, whose cars had been bricked as well. We were abused by these youths.

“It was disappointing the police didn’t arrive quickly. I recognise they have a difficult job but this is not an isolated situation.

“They were on the scene for 10 minutes, they were still loitering, and they weren’t being deterred by motorists and other people and it is disappointing.”

Officers confirmed they had previously received reports of stones being thrown at vehicles along Blackburn Road.

Fortunately, the bus was empty when the incident occurred, and no one was injured.

“The perpetrator wasn’t standing at a great distance, he was only on the pavement and it was so fortunate a child wasn’t sat there as they would have been showered with glass and potentially had a stone come at them as well.”

Lancashire Police said officers attended the scene but there was no trace of anyone.
