A Rossendale woman has said “she is so glad she watched the show” after Lorraine Kelly helped identify her cancer.

Hazel Holland, from Crawshawbooth, was able to identify her breast cancer after watching a section of the Lorraine morning show which told women how to recognise the disease.

After speaking with her son’s girlfriend about her concerns, she was encouraged to visit the doctors who quickly gave Hazel her diagnosis.

She said: “It was an important moment for me. I am oblivious to these sorts of things.

"I never used to check myself and it is one of those things you don’t think you will get it.

“I don’t think I would have bothered with the symptoms, and I am so glad I watched it when I did.”

The 58-year-old still has breast cancer and is under investigation after having surgery two weeks ago.

The campaign on the Lorraine show, which airs daily from 9am, was called the Change and Check and was formed by producer Helen Addis.

Made up of women who have or are recovering from breast cancer, the group participated in several fundraisers including climbing over the O2 in London and the Bristol Balloon Festival.

Over the last two years, they have formed a choir and this year with the support of Marti Pellow they have released their track ‘Love Is All Around Us’.

The classic track was originally written by Wet Wet Wet and led by Marti and reached number one in the UK Singles Chart.

Now performed by the choir it has returned to number one in the download charts and two in the Global Big Top 40 as they aim to raise money for Secondary Cancer Research.

Hazel added: “It is one of the cancers that gets left out.

"We have just lost one of the singers, she died three weeks ago and was only 50, so it is quite a poignant time.”

The choir will be performing at the Royal Variety Performance on November 22.
