An appeal has been issued for volunteers to help support the Poppy Appeal in Blackburn up to Remembrance Sunday.

Donation hubs have been established across Blackburn with Darwen once again by Royal British Legion campaigners ahead of the annual event.

A double-fronted shop has been established in Blackburn Mall and there are extensive stalls in both Blackburn Market and Darwen Market.

Pop-up stalls are running in Blackburn's Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda and Tesco stores, Darwen's Lidl and Sainsbury’s stores and the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Donations can be made by cash, contactless payment or by scanning a QR code available at the stalls, with monies going towards supporting the British Legion in its work supporting armed forces veterans and their families.

Remembrance Sunday falls this year on November 10, with Armistice Day the following day, Monday.

A Blackburn Royal British Legion spokesperson said: "If you can volunteer any time between October 21 and November 9 we would love to hear from you.

"Whether you’ve volunteered before or you're new to the Poppy Appeal we would like you to join us to help build and grow the Royal British Legion in Blackburn.

"No experience is needed, all you need is a desire to support our armed forces community.

"If you think you can help please do contact us by either calling Neil on 07708 945 870 or emailing the Blackburn appeal at blackburnpoppyappeal@mail.com or by dropping us a message on (Facebook)."

Supporters of the Poppy Appeal have again been asked to be wary of any unofficial poppy sellers who may be offering knock-off merchandise which will not benefit the official appeal.

People can also donate online at the Royal British Legion's website.

Meanwhile, tickets are also on sale for the RBL's annual Blackburn family fireworks and bonfire night, which will take place on Saturday, November 2, at the East Lancs Cricket Club in Dukes Brow.

Tickets can be purchased online at trybooking.com/uk/DVFU

All profits raised will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and The Firefighters Charity.
