A family has paid an emotional tribute to a "funny, kind, caring and considerate" man who died after a crash on the M61 this week.

David Eubank, 20, from Bolton, was a back seat passenger in a Citroen C1 car,  which was involved in a crash with a Mercedes car on the southbound carriage of the M61 on Tuesday night (October 15).

Paying tribute to David, his family said: “David was beautiful inside and out – we are so proud of the fine young man he had become.

“He was funny, kind, caring and considerate at home, work and with his friends.

“David was so much loved by all who knew him.

“He has left a massive hole in our hearts – we are devastated by his loss.”

The crash happened around 11.40pm, near Rivington Services.

Officers are investigating what happened and they continue to appeal for witnesses.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries, and they were all taken to hospital for treatment.

The motorway was closed throughout the day as police launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

At the time Sgt Kasim Hussain of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “This collision has very sadly seen a young man lose his life and my thoughts first and foremost are with his family and loved ones and this distressing time.

“As part of the investigation, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.

“If anyone was driving on the M61 near the scene of the collision and has dashcam footage, we want to hear from them.”

Any witnesses or anyone with footage or information should contact 101, quoting log 1497 of October 15, 2024, or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk.
