The M58 was closed for around seven hours last night (October 18) and into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The M58 was closed eastbound between junction five near Skelmersdale and the M6 near Orrell.

This was for emergency resurfacing following an earlier vehicle fire.

At the time, it was warned that the closure was set to remain in place until 6am.

It reopened at around 5am.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M58 is now open eastbound between junction five near Skelmersdale and the M6 near Orrell following emergency resurfacing due an earlier vehicle fire. Thank you for your patience. Have a safe onward journey.”
