An opticians has donated high-visibility vests to a Scouts group.

Specsavers on Broadway, Accrington, gave the vests to the 109th Loyola Scout Group after they reached out for help.

The donation will benefit the Squirrels, Beavers, and Cubs sections of the group.

Nicole Robertson, the 109th Loyola Squirrels and Cub Scout leader, said: "On behalf of all Loyola Scouts, I’d like to say how grateful we are for this donation.

"From a safety perspective, the vests are essential.

"They mean we can all now go on day trips, walks and hikes knowing that we can easily spot one another and be visible to others."

Specsavers is a co-sponsor of Road Safety Week, an annual event aimed at promoting road safety.

Melanie Moore, dispensing optician director, said: "We are always proud to support the communities in and around Accrington and what better way to highlight general outdoor safety than by ensuring local children are visible and can easily be spotted by motorists when their activities take them out into the community."

Specsavers offer services including eye tests, glasses, contact lenses, hearing checks, hearing aids, and wax removal.

For those unable to visit one of their 1,000 locally owned stores, a home visit service is offered.
