Rossendale is gearing up to welcome the Tour de Manc, as rider pass through the valley for the first time.

Rossendale Borough Council, Rossendale Leisure Trust and representatives from Tour de Manc officially launched the Tour de Manc with a special event at Marl Pits.

Set to take place on Sunday, May 4 next year, the ride will feature four cycling routes, ranging from 50km to 200km, and promises to bring excitement and community spirit to the area.

The official launch revealed how Rossendale will play a central role in the Tour, with three of the longer rides - the 100km, 150km, and 200km routes - weaving through the borough.

Cyclists will pass through Bacup and continue to Haslingden, with a key stop at Marl Pits in Rawtenstall, where participants will enjoy a rest and refreshments at the designated "sandwich stop."

The Tour de Manc is a major charity cycling event, raising funds for four important causes: Prevent Breast Cancer, St Ann’s Hospice, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and the Seashell Trust.

Volunteers from RBC, RLT, and the partnering charities will help manage the Marl Pits stop, alongside support from local businesses, who will have the opportunity to sponsor food, provide volunteers, and promote their services.

Rossendale Council’s chief executive Rob Huntington said: “We’re really pleased that Rossendale will be a key part of the Tour de Manc in 2025.

"The council is committed to fostering healthy and proud communities, one of the Council’s key strategic priorities, and this event is a fantastic example of just that.

"It is not only a great way to showcase our beautiful countryside, but it also creates an excellent opportunity for our local businesses and communities to get involved.

"Whether through sponsorship, volunteering, or community projects, the Tour de Manc will leave a lasting legacy of community engagement and active travel here in Rossendale.”

Tony Rubins, one of the event organisers of Tour de Manc, said:  "We are incredibly excited to bring the Tour de Manc to Rossendale for the first time in 2025.

"Rossendale’s stunning landscapes and challenging cycling routes make it a perfect addition to our event.

"We’re looking forward to working with the local community, businesses, and volunteers to create an unforgettable experience for both the riders and everyone involved.

"This event isn’t just about cycling; it’s about making a positive impact through charity and celebrating the spirit of Mancunian grit and generosity."

Mr Huntington added: “The Tour de Manc is a brilliant chance to link Bacup and Haslingden through a shared event and to promote cycling and physical activity in Rossendale.

"We look forward to working with local businesses and community members to make this a memorable and meaningful event for everyone involved.”
