THE founder of a huge Indian restaurant chain which came to Blackburn earlier this year has died.
Muslim bereavement service, Janaza Announcements, said this morning Shabir Hussain, chair and chief executive of Akbar's, has passed away at the age of 56.
The restaurant first opened in 1995 with just a small 28 seat restaurant in the heart of Bradford city centre.
As well as almost a dozen venues across north, Scotland, and the Midlands, Akbar’s opened in Blackburn in March.
Mr Hussain was present for the lavish opening at the flagship venue next to King George’s Hall in the town centre, and since opening the restaurant has been a hit with people across East Lancashire.
All the restaurants will now be closed until Friday, October 18 (5pm).
A post on the Akbar's Facebook account said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shabir Hussain, founder of Akbars Restaurant Group.
"All restaurants will now be closed and will reopen on Friday, October 18 at 5pm."
