An Oswaldtwistle chippy is among 40 of the best fish and chip shops in the country hoping to be named Takeaway of the Year.
Westend Fish and Chips joins the Farington Chippy in Leyland as one of only two from Lancashire included on the list.
The National Fish and Chip Awards 2025 is organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).
To win, chip shops are set a meticulous set of tasks, challenges and interviews covering 'industry awareness, product knowledge, environmental and sustainability best practice, employer responsibilities and customer service'.
A panel of fish and chip experts have the task of assessing all the takeaways that entered.
Owner, Deryn Regan Hitchen said: “As a business we are extremely proud. It shows we are passionate and are always striving to be a quality traditional fish and chip shop and to be noticed national is a great achievement.
“I would like to thank my team of staff for their hard work and enthusiasm and we are all crossing our fingers for the next round and hopefully making it to London for the finals in February.”
President of the NFFF, Andrew Crook, said: “Fish and chips is such an iconic British staple.
"It takes huge amounts of skill and hard work to not only perfect the dish and other menu offerings but to also overcome challenges and sustain the business while keeping employees motivated and fulfilled.
"There’s a lot to it and each awards season we see greater depths of talent, expertise and business acumen and this trend has continued this year, too.
“Takeaway of the Year is the big one, so it goes without saying that the journey it takes contenders on is very intense."
The next round of judging will see the official board of judges chopping the list down to 20 and then to the final 10.
The National Fish & Chip Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 26, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, where the new winner will be announced and will take the baton from current champion, Caerphilly-based Ship Deck.
Last year, Westend Fish and Chips received a quality accreditation from the NFFF last year, while in 2022 it make the final 10 in the awards' Field to Frier category recognising the chippy's "excellence in potato knowledge, care, and chip preparation".
