A number of fireworks have been seized in Darwen after bouts of anti-social behaviour in the town.

Patrols have been ongoing in the town and more are planned after recent issues with youths setting off fireworks.

Police say they have identified more than 20 youths who have been educated as to their behaviour both in the company of their parents and within their schools.

Two dispersal orders have been utilised so far and a number of youths have been directed to leave the town centre as a result.

Seven children were removed from the area by officers and returned to their parents.

As well, five young people have been issued with Acceptable Behaviour Contracts which have significant repercussions for them and their parents if breached.

Several stop and searches have been carried out and a number of items seized, including fireworks, spray paint, e-cigarettes, and balaclavas.

A police spokesperson said: "We are aware of small pockets of anti-social behaviour and this will be dealt with robustly.

"Parents, please keep your young people safe - know where they are, who they are with, and what they are doing."
