It might not look like it but this was very much a hi-tech facility when it opened in July 1948.
The single-storey brick building was the new BBC transmitter station at Riley Green.
According to the caption from the time, it would be broadcasting at 203.5. Perhaps our resident radio buffs can confirm this.
Presumably the transmitter station would have an antenna or aerial nearby to relay the BBC’s output to everyone listening to ‘the wireless’.
