Two Lancashire towns have been named among the 10 places in the UK where buying a property on a £20k salary is possible.

Zoopla provided the data exclusively to The Sun and locations across the UK feature in the list.

Blackpool and Burnley represent Lancashire on the list with them both offering Brits the opportunity to get on the property ladder when earning £20,000.

The data from Zoopla shows that the average house price in Blackpool is £123,600, according to The Sun.

Blackpool and Burnley among UK areas where property can be bought on £20k salary

The newspaper adds that in Blackpool, a borrower would be able to afford to buy a property with a price tag similar to the average house price if they earned a salary of £23,340.

Burnley also makes the list with the average house price being revealed as £120,100 with the annual salary of £22,680.

Borrowers would need to meet the bank’s criteria before moving forward with the buying process – the criteria could include having minimal debt.

To create the list, property site Zoopla worked out how much a borrower would need for a mortgage on the properties in its list by assuming they had a 15% deposit saved and that they could borrow 4.5 times their salary.

Zoopla’s calculations are an estimate of an annual salary that’s needed and don’t consider the circumstances of individuals.

The areas were defined by Zoopla as local authorities with the data covering England, Scotland and Wales.

Daniel Copley, consumer expert at Zoopla, told The Sun: "Although house prices are still on the rise in many parts of the country, if you’re willing to broaden your horizons there are some more affordable pockets where you can get on the property ladder for under £20,000.

“These include areas in Scotland, the North East and North West, many of which have easy access to major cities and good transport links.”
