Firefighters have been tackling a fire this afternoon at a derelict building in Haslingden, and work is expected to continue throughout the night.

Earlier today residents were told to close all windows and doors when the blaze engulfed a former warehouse with smoke seen billowing throughout the valley.

At 11.30am, 10 fire engines from Lancashire Fire and Rescue were in attendance, at the scene with teams using two hose reels and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Road closures were in place between Jubilee Road to the Holden Arms and St Crispen Way due to the blaze, with Grane Road closed from the M65 to The Valley.

Police were involved in closing the roads, which reopened at 5.30pm.

Drivers who were looking to use Grane Road were urged to go via Helmshore to allow emergency services to finish their work.

Teams from Blackburn, Bamber Bridge, Darwen Bacup, Hyndburn and Rawtenstall were all in attendance.

The drone team was called to support officers at 2.11pm and remained in place for much of the afternoon.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue issued an update at 4pm stating that six fire engines remained at the site alongside the aerial ladder platform as teams continued to monitor and extinguish the hotspots.

Rosso Bus services also faced disruption with the company unable to reach any stop between Haslingden and the Bee Hive at Guide.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for further information relating to the potential cause.
