A former Accrington Stanley stadium announcer and trust board member has appeared in court charged with revenge porn and other violent offences.

Joshua Adcroft, of Antley Street, Accrington, is accused of false imprisonment, assault, revenge porn, and intentional strangulation.

He first appeared before Manchester Magistrates' Court on April 30 charged with assault and strangulation.

On June 3, he appeared again before Blackburn Magistrates' Court, where he was charged with breaching bail conditions and pleaded not guilty to the assault offence.

Appearing before Manchester Magistrates on September 19, two further charges of false imprisonment, a further assault charge, and a count of sharing a photograph or film of person in intimate state without consent - better known as revenge porn.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is next due to appear before Manchester Crown Court on November 4. The pre-trial review is set for October 24.

Adcroft, 31, stood as a supporter’s trust board member at the club and joined the board members when they were presented with a King’s Award for voluntary service in January.

His role as the public address announcer involved him informing fans of any on-field procedures and choosing the matchday playlist.

An agenda from the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters' Trust's annual general meeting on August 22 informed attendees that Adcroft had resigned from the board.

It is believed he was removed from the announcing role by the club at the end of last season and he is currently remanded in custody.

A Accrington Stanley FC spokesperson said: "Josh stopped working for Accrington Stanley as PA announcer in April 2024.

"That's the last contact we had with him."
