Police said a 29-year-old man has been arrested following a horror crash in Blackburn over the weekend.

Lancashire Police also revealed they arrested 35 people across the county on drink and drug drive offences from Friday through to Sunday.

On Sunday at around 1.30pm police were called to reports of a crash in Preston Old Road, Feniscowles.

A Mini Countryman was driving at speed overtaking vehicles before it hit the kerb, flipped, and landed on its roof, police said.

The driver, who had a provisional licence, only got himself out of the car, leaving his female passenger trapped.

The fire service was called and the passenger was rescued and suffered minor injuries. 

A 29-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and aggravated vehicle taking. He was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police said during the weekend 16 people were arrested for drug driving, 12 people for drink driving and four people for driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Two people failed to provide a sample and one person was arrested for being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

One of the incidents involved police stopping a Volkswagen Polo which was seen driving the wrong way down Church Street, a one-way street in Preston.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Salford, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation.

On Saturday at around 9.10pm police were called to reports of a crash in Paddock Road, Skelmersdale. It was reported a lorry had crashed into a business premises.
 
The driver, Almat Taubayev, 41, of no fixed address was arrested, and later charged, with failing to provide a sample and remanded to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday.
