Blackburn with Darwen's crime rate dropped for the second month in a row in August, figures show.

Data from police.uk shows there were 1,579 recorded crimes in the borough in August, a drop of a little more than three per cent from the 1,634 crimes recorded in July.

Anti-social behaviour topped the list this time, with violence and sexual offences dropping for the third month in a row.

Using the data, it’s possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and determine how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 13 different crimes listed in the data, there were eight decreases and five increases.

Statistically, the biggest increase was in theft from person, which went up by 60 per cent.

The other offences changed as follows:

  • Anti-social behaviour - 439 (July) - 498 (Aug) - up 13.43 per cent
  • Violence and sexual offences - 565 (July) - 473 (Aug) - down 16.28 per cent
  • Criminal damage and arson - 97 (July) - 116 (Aug) - up 19.58 per cent
  • Shoplifting - 102 (July) - 98 (Aug) - down 3.92 per cent
  • Vehicle crime - 105 (July) - 98 (Aug) - down 6.66 per cent
  • Public order - 89 (July) - 76 (Aug) - down 14.60 per cent
  • Other theft - 80 (July) - 73 (Aug) - down 8.75 per cent
  • Burglary - 44 (July) - 40 (Aug) - down 9.09 per cent
  • Other crime - 45 (July) - 36 (Aug) - down 20 per cent
  • Drugs - 28 (July) - 27 (Aug) - down 3.57 per cent
  • Possession of weapons - 17 (July) - 20 (Aug) - up 17.64 per cent
  • Robbery - 14 (July) - 16 (Aug) - up 14.28 per cent

Elsewhere in East Lancashire, three other boroughs also saw their crime rates decrease.

The biggest drop was in the Ribble Valley, which went down from 355 recorded crimes in July to 278 in August, a drop of 21.69 per cent.

In Hyndburn the rate dropped by 6.55 per cent from 1,053 to 984, while in Burnley it went down by 0.57 per cent from 1,218 to 1,211.

Pendle saw the biggest increase, going up by 10.76 per cent from 836 to 926, while the rate in Rossendale went up by 1.19 per cent from 585 to 592.
