A nursery where “significant improvements were made to leadership and management” is back on the right track after overcoming an inadequate Ofsted report.
St Wilfrid’s Nursery, in St Wilfrids Terrace, Longridge, received a ‘good’ rating after an inspection on September 10.
The childcare provider had previously received an ‘inadequate’ rating and concerns were raised over the safeguarding procedures and policies.
A report published on October 8 found the nursery was now rated ‘good’ after addressing issues raised by Ofsted.
In the latest report, inspectors said: “Children are safe and well cared for in this small and supportive nursery.
“They play and learn happily together under the care of kind staff. The provider has developed good oversight of the nursery and works alongside staff to ensure that the quality of care and education continues to improve.
“Since the last inspection leaders have worked hard to make the necessary improvements.”
The quality of care was commended, and the staff paid particular attention to hygiene and acted as excellent role models for children.
They also promote children’s cultural backgrounds and celebrate relevant festivals and events, which helps children to learn and respect others.
Inspectors continued: “There have been significant improvements to the leadership and management of the nursery since the last inspection.
“Staff now benefit from a well-planned training programme to ensure they can fulfil their roles with confidence and skill. Staff understand how to keep children safe and have developed their knowledge of how young children learn.”
Support for children with special education needs was also commended and the staff worked well to develop language and communication.
They also were praised for their broad curriculum which prepared children for school, but it did critique how staff struggled to understand the key steps children need to learn.
The report continued: “Staff plan an appropriate literacy curriculum. Staff introduce keywords and phrases. This helps children to learn language.
“However, the provider has not fully considered how effectively this is implemented for all children.”
Parents were said to be very satisfied with the support they receive from the provider and that children love to attend.
The arrangements for safeguarding were considered to be effective, with an open and positive culture that puts children's interests first.
